British Values
At Bengeo School we actively promote the values, virtues and ethics that underpin the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.
Links are made to specific subjects where these opportunities arise (see curriculum overview for whole school). In addition:
Democracy
Our school council and leadership group ensure that pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard and acted upon
The rule of law
The importance of laws, whether they be for the class, the school or in the community, are reinforced regularly every day. Pupils are taught the values and reasons behind such laws, that they govern and protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences when laws are broken.
Individual liberty
Pupils are encouraged to make choices, within a safe and supportive environment. They are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms, taught and consolidated not only in our personal, social, health and emotional (PSHE) programmes but underpinning everything the school stands for.
Mutual respect
The value of mutual respect is intrinsic to the school's ethos. Assemblies and PSHE lessons, along with the highest expectations for behaviour, constantly reinforce this aspect of British law.
Tolerance
Opportunities for enhancing pupils understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society are sought at every opportunity. Assemblies, links to topics and PSHE, along with a wide variety of sources help pupils to understand a range of faiths.
